One of the more intriguing organizations in Knox County's history was The Improved Order of Red Men, which was in existence in Barbourville around 1910 or earlier.
Thanks to Trent Hall for his donation of the bylaws booklet of Barbourville's Red Men entitled "By-laws of Tchoupitoulas Tribe, No. 111, Imp. O.R.M. / Hunting Grounds of Barbourville, Reservation of Ky." The donation was made in memory of Trent's son Jason Hall, 1978-2011.
According to Wikipedia, The Red Men was a fraternal organization established in North America in 1834.
As stated in Wikipedia, "their rituals and regalia are modeled after those assumed by white men of the era to be used by Native Americans. Despite the name, the order was formed solely by, and for, white men.The organization claimed a membership of about half a million in 1935, but has declined to a little more than 15,000.
