A LETTER FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

After thirty years The Knox County Genealogical Society is officially closing effective November 30, 2005. The KNOX COUNTY, KENTUCKY KINFOLK will no longer be printed.

The entire collection of books, materials, research, copyrights, and our publications will be placed at the KNOX HISTORICAL MUSEUM in Barbourville. These materials will be available thru the Museum. Nadine Davis Smith, a genealogist, Nancy Hampton, a librarian, and Charles Reed Mitchell along with the Dr. Thomas Walker Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution will be in charge of the library. Nadine Davis Smith writes a genealogy column in the MOUNTAIN ADVOCATE and she will be writing the genealogy section in the publication of the museum, THE KNOX COUNTIAN. We feel the library will be the “crown jewel” of the Museum.

We have enjoyed our thirty years working with you. It has been a labor of love. We are unable to continue due to personal and family illness. We feel that we are placing it in the hands of good dedicated people who will continue the work. It will be a great place to visit and research to your hearts content when you are in Barbourville. We encourage you to continue your contributions of research and data to the organization and urge you to become a member of the Museum.

Please find enclosed a letter from Charles Reed Mitchell with information about the museum and some of the plans for the combination of materials already in place along with the vast collection that we have.

Please continue to be proud of your Knox County roots and continue your search of your family lines.

Maxine Humfleet Jones, President
Virginia Jones Logan, Secretary
