The Knox Historical Museum submitted information in early 2014 on the Boone Trace in Knox County, Kentucky, to the Boone Society, Inc. headed by Sam Compton.

The information pertained to driving tours of the Trace that enter and exit main roads along U.S. 25E. These are called "loops," and six of them have been identified in Knox County so far.

They are as follows:

1. Ely and Pogue Hollows Loop
    a. Location of site: Enter and exit state route 3085

    b. Why this site should be included:

        i. This road is on the exact path of the old Boone Trace

ii. At the mount of Ely Hollow was Knox County's first brick home

iii. At the mouth of Pogue Hollow was Knox County's oldest mill state on the Cumberland River

2. Flat Lick Loop

    a. Location of site: Enter and exit using state route 3085
    b. Why this site should be included:
        i. This route continues near exact path of the old Boone Trace.
ii. On this route is the Flat Lick pioneer park (Daniel Boone Memorial Park), marking the point at which the Boone Trace takes a different path from the old Warrior's Path, and the later Wilderness Road.
iii. The Flat Lick area was mapped by John Filson in 1784 as along hunter campsite.

3. Turkey Creek Loop
    a. Location of site: North U.S. 25E, just north of Flat Lick

    b. Why this site should be included:
        i. Near the mouth of this creek, near the Turkey Creek Baptist Church, was the old Middleton Station Fort, erected in 1793 to protect travelers on the Trace and later the Wilderness Road.
ii. This area was also mapped by Filson in 1784.

4. Bimble Loop
    a. Enter and exit using Route 3439; continue to intersect Route 1304.
    b. Why this site should be included:
        i. This loop again is an exact foot path of the old Boone Trace.
ii. At the end of this loop, at the intersection of Route 1304, is the point at which the Boone Trace and the later Wilderness Road split off in 1796; area was known as "Fighting Creek" (Filson Map, 1794).

5. Higgins Branch - (Boone) Trace Branch Loop
    a. Location of site: Continue on Route 3439, Old U.S. 25E north to Route 3440; cross Higgins Hollow to intersect Hwy. 11 near Trace Branch; take Hwy. 11 south to the community of Heidrick.
    b. Why this site should be included:
        i. Path crossing from Fighting Creek to Little Richland Creek
ii. Nearby is Trace Branch Methodist Churches, one of the oldest churches in the county.
iii. Site is the route to Big Richland Creek, mapped by Filson in 1784.

6. Heidrick (Blue Gable Straight Loop)
    a. Location of site: At Heidrick, follow Route 2418 (Blue Gable Straight) to intersect U.S. 25 north toward Corbin.
    b. Why this site should be included:
        i. Area of Daniel Boone's old camp
ii. Site at which Boone Trace crossed the Big Richland Creek
iii. Area was also mapped by Filson
